Fighting in the "Ring of Hope"

An easy way to avoid trouble is by keeping busy. Do whatever, just stay busy! Trouble lurks around idle time, all the time.

I work with high school students and this is the most important, yet most challenging message I can drive home. It's helpful to have a fun activity in your quiver to help reinforce this golden guidance.

My biggest resource in addition to "The Little Black Pearl" (art program) is the The Ring of Hope- boxing mentoring program. For a couple of my more aggressive mentees this is the perfect way for them release built-up tension.

Here is a recent post I wrote for cpsmentors.com, which gives a description of what the brothers over at the ROH are putting together.

My favorive Saturday night "get ready" theme song is Cardigan Sweater by one of the freshest Chicago sounds Boy Illinois.

His rap niche is to splash you with that "Freshboi" life style, while providing thought provoking undertones. Check out the video, then precede to www.TheBoyIllinois.com and grab his latest mixtape Inhale 3!

The. Roots.

If you know me, you know I've been a die heart fan of this group since the mid-nineties. It's the first thing I tell you after my name (joke). In a time frame when everyone was bumping their favorite No Limit artist, I was soaking in the rhythmic vibes of The Legendary Roots Crew. Weird for a twelve year old right?

My Roots album purchases began in a pre-digital world, so this meant I had to play the couple of cd's, and tapes I owned over and over.. and over. This is my explanation for knowing all lyrics, ad libs, and random comments on "Do you want more?!".

If I had any complaints for my childhood favorite group (1st Roots, 2nd Wu-Tang, 3rd A Tribe Called Quest), it would be the revolving door that the group's supporting musicians enter and exit. All and all, I am pleased The Roots are receiving their just acclaim.
